Awards

Locally and at the state level, Wilfredo has been awarded the Secretary of Connecticut’s Excellence in Citizenship Award in June 2007, (former Vice President of Management for People United Bank) Barbera Bellinger’s Youth Resilience Award, and has had his story of overcoming obstacles has been shared in the United Way of South Eastern Connecticut’s Annual Report (2007), and awarded the “Class of 1957 Spirit Award” from Warren G. Harding High School upon graduation.  In 2009, he received a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Children and Families for his “valuable contributions” toward the celebration of Hispanic Heritage month and has appeared in a special edition of the Family Services Woodfield newsletter in September 2010.

At the national level, Wilfredo was a lead author of an article for a special edition of a “The National Child Welfare Journal” with the REACH Institute of New York, New York.  He has collaborated with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and their department based out of the University of California at Los Angeles on two articles for publication. Wilfredo received the Pearl Johnson Resilient Leader Award from The National Alliance for Rights Protection and Advocacy and has presented and spoken at the Alaska Peer Support Consortium’s National Conference in 2009.

Currently, Wilfredo is a Board Member and Co-Chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee of the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA).  He is also a contributing editor and council member for the Inspire USA Foundation’s subgroup “Reach Out.”
